A San Antonio native, I graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in 1980. Following high school, I served in the US Army during the end of the Cold War in Korea and California where I supported air defense missile systems. After my military service I entered the healthcare field as a Biomedical Engineer at Methodist Hospital and have now supported Healthcare Informatics Systems for Philips Healthcare for 27 plus years. I earned an Associate’s degree from St. Philips and attended UTSA but never completed my computer science degree. A few years ago, I discovered Enology, the science of wine, which ignited a passion for learning about Viticulture and Enology. In 2015, I completed a 2-year Texas Tech University Winemaking Certification Program in Fredericksburg and with my wife, Geralyn, we graduated in their first graduating class. Afterwards, I continued my education at Tech earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Plant Soil Science in 2019 through their distance program while not having to leave our home in Boerne, TX. I’m currently consulting on wine operations at Dos Rios Vineyard and Winery in Rio Grande City. I have 3 daughters Lisa, Lauren and Laina. I also have a grandson, Ethan. Lisa is a graduate of UTSA and Lauren is a 2021 graduate of Texas Tech and is currently there in her second year of her Master’s program in Natural Resources. Laina is soon to graduate with an Associate’s degree from South Plains College. Both Geralyn and I are active in our Alumni chapter and love supporting our game watching parties, joint parent and alumni events and our annual golf tournament.
